SportAccord to organise the 2012 World Mind Games online tournament

Lausanne, 23 July 2012 - Following the great success of the first edition of the online tournament which involved more than 300.000 participants, SportAccord has decided to reiterate the experience in 2012, with the support of WBF (World Bridge Federation), FIDE (World Chess Federation), FMJD (World Draughts Federation), IGF (International Go Federation), IMSA (International Mind Sports Association)and WXF (World Xiangqi Federation) as well as the most important mind games online platforms, including BBO (Bridge Base Online), ChessBase, Draughts server, GOTO Games, Ourgames, Pandanet and Swan Games.

Tournaments in each sport will take place in September and October 2012 on all major online platforms. 

Participants may play in different categories based on their skill levels. Additional efforts will be made to involve the young audience as well as universities. One winner selected for each sport will be invited for a one week journey to attend the 2012 SportAccord World Mind Games in Beijing (travel and accommodation included) and will have the chance to play against some of the world’s best professional players. Online winners will also receive a commemorative medal and a certificate at the closing ceremony of the event. Other prizes may be awarded to more players depending on their performance.
