QUéBEC MAYOR SEES CONVENTION UPSIDE

Québec City Mayor Régis Labeaume said Wednesday that the 2012 SportAccord Convention will be financially profitable for the host city and is a cost-effective way of raising its profile in the world of sport. Speaking at a crowded press conference at the Québec City Convention Centre, the mayor stated, "Hosting this event in Québec fits perfectly in our strategy of sports development and international growth." The mayor unveiled the design of the stand for the Convention exhibition that will be shared by the city of Québec and the Québec Tourism Office. SportAcccord Convention would be "good for the whole province," he said.

Pierre-Michel Bouchard, president-director general of the Québec Convention Centre, said hosting SportAccord Convention has brought about "an extraordinary mobilisation of different regional entities, partners and suppliers, all eager to showcase the potential of our city to host events."

During the press conference, Anna Hellman, executive director of the 10th anniversary SportAccord Convention, presented the programme of the six-day event. The main conference programme, City Forum and LawAccord will feature about 60 expert speakers.
