The Calgary Sport Tourism Authority has entered into its first partnership with SportAccord Convention as part of a long-term strategy for growing Calgary’s international reputation as a world-class major sport event host.

“We are delighted to welcome Calgary Sport Tourism Authority as a new Bronze Partner for our 2014 event,” said Nis Hatt, Managing Director of SportAccord Convention.

“Their experience and insight into hosting a range of events for both winter and summer sports will be welcomed by many of our delegates, including International Federations, organising committees and fellow host cities.”

Calgary is Canada’s centre for high-performance winter sport and has added major summer events like the PGA Champions Tour and UCI Tour of Alberta to the iconic Calgary Stampede and Spruce Meadows events for a strong year-round event portfolio.

“SportAccord Convention unites the best and brightest of our industry as we demonstrate the power of sport and the ability of major events to provide wide ranging benefits to our cities and countries,” said Marco De Iaco, Calgary Sport Tourism Authority Executive Director.

“We are excited to be supporting SportAccord Convention and look forward to sharing the benefits of hosting events in Calgary.”

Calgary’s progressive strategy and sport hosting attributes have led to the city recently being recognized as one of the world’s top five Ultimate Sports Cities by SportBusiness International, a SportAccord Convention exhibitor and Media Partner.

“Recognition as one of the world’s top five Ultimate Sports Cities validates a long-term commitment to an ambitious, collaborative strategy that embraces the variety of benefits that accompany hosting major sporting events,” said Doug Mitchell, Calgary Sport Tourism Authority Board Chair.

“The commitment to legacy building, the development of new facilities, incredible local champions and a city that embraces sport have combined into a preeminent winter sport city with the rare ability to host a diversity of major events year-round.”

The SportBusiness Ultimate Sports Cities Awards will be presented at SportAccord Convention during SportBusiness’ dedicated breakfast session on Thursday 10 April.
