04.04.2014

SportAccord Convention announced today that the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has signed up as a Bronze Partner for their 2014 edition taking place 6-11 April at the Susesi Convention Centre in Belek/Antalya, Turkey.

As part of the collaboration the IAAF will be holding a panel Q&A called “The Power of Sport” chaired by five time Olympian Charmaine Crooks and featuring: IAAF President, Lamine Diack; Heptathlon legend, Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Italy’s World Junior Champion high-jumper, Alessia Trost. President Diack will use the panel to discuss innovative projects that the IAAF is planning for 2014 and beyond.

“As the number one Olympic sport, it’s important that we play a full role in the global sports movement so we're thrilled to be a Bronze Partner for this year’s SportAccord Convention,” said Nick Davies, Deputy Secretary General at the IAAF.

“This is an exciting time for athletics and we look forward to showcasing our new exciting initiatives to the leading figures in the world of sport.”

As part of its Bronze Partner status, the IAAF will also be sponsoring the morning runs, to show that the federation is not only about elite performance sport but has a huge role to play in encouraging health and fitness participation amongst the wider public.

“We really appreciate the extra mile that the IAAF is taking by bringing in star athletes to lead our morning runs,” said Nis Hatt, Managing Director of SportAccord Convention.

“For the IAAF to take time out of their busy schedule to inspire our delegates is a real treat, and adds great value to the Convention.”

Just a few weeks after SportAccord Convention, the IAAF will be hosting a brand new event, with the World Relays due to take place in the Bahamas on 24-25 May 2014. The IAAF will also be holding five events in 2014 as part of the World Athletics Series and as a true representation of the global nature of athletics, these will be staged on four different continents.
