17.02.2014

LAUSANNE, Switzerland - SportAccord Convention today announced the addition of exciting new conference speakers for the 12th annual edition taking place from 6-11 April 2014 in Belek/Antalya, Turkey. Among the big names areAzad Rahimov, Azerbaijan's Minister of Youth and Sport and CEO of the first-ever European Games in Baku in 2015, and Helena Alterby Nordstrom, Chairman of the Ladies European Tour.

During the City Forum at the Susesi Convention Centre, Mr. Rahimov will present his vision of the huge potential that sport has to contribute to Azerbaijan's economic, social and political development. The first European Games will bring more than 5,000 international elite athletes to Baku in June 2015.

Also new additions to the annual City Forum are Rick Traer, CEO of the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance, and Olivier Pascal, founder of the FISE World Series.

Ms. Nordstrom, a former LET golfer, will join the conference panel session on "The New Face of Leadership." Belek/Antalya will welcome this year's Turkish Airlines Ladies Golf Open, which is part of the Ladies European Tour, at the National Golf Club from 8-11 May 2014.

Another timely new addition to the speaker line-up for the "New Faces" session is Andrew Parsons of Brazil, recently elected Vice President of the International Paralympic Committee, as he looks ahead to the Rio 2016 Summer Paralympics.

The conference session on "The Integrity Issue" is shaping up to be a provocative one with the addition of John Amaechi OBE, Managing Director of Amaechi Performance Systems, a former NBA player well known for his plain-spoken views, and similarly forthright journalist Gianni Merlo of Gazzetta dello Sport, who is President of the International Sports Press Association. They will add their lively opinions to a debate on cheating and sports-related criminality, including doping and match-fixing.

More details about speakers and sessions will be announced in the coming weeks. As in past years, the conference moderator will be BBC World News Anchor and Journalist David Eades.
