LAUSANNE, Switzerland – In just under a week, the SportAccord Convention World Sport & Business Summit will take place in Sochi, Russia, from 19-24 April 2015. With history in the making, this is the first time the SportAccord Convention has hosted a unique Village, as well as Sports Demo Zone. Opening daily from 09:00 to 18:30, SportAccord Convention together with a team of local Volunteers, will welcome the residents of Sochi – a city now recognised as a familiar sports hub, business and tourist destination.

Lia Luzzi, Event Executive, and responsible for the SportAccord Convention Village and Sports Demo Zone commented, “The Sports Demo Zone has worked very well in the past, however, this was for our delegates. The SportAccord Convention Village has been created to provide a cultural window to the world, as well as welcome the Citizens and schoolchildren of Sochi, providing inspiration and sharing the intrinsic values held in the Spirit of Sport. The Sports Demo Zone enables Members to showcase their sport with 90-minute Masterclasses, encouraging local children to take part. I am really looking forward to seeing the smiles on their faces.”

Masterclasses have been scheduled daily and participation is on a first-come, first-served basis. Sports disciplines on show include Judo, Wrestling, Sambo, Muay Thai, Karate, Aikido, Orienteering, Floorball, Boules and Chess, as well as GO games for those who want to sit and play whilst learning! Mini-Golf, Table Tennis and billiard tables will also be located around the SportAccord Convention Village for people’s enjoyment, enabling sports enthusiasts to have a game, or anyone wanting to try their hand at an unfamiliar sport, to join in and have fun.

The SportAccord Convention Village will also host an Art Gallery featuring famous artists. This will include Impressionist,Tuman Zhumabaev, one of the most prominent painters living in Russia today, who recently had one of his pictures acquired by the Hermitage for its permanent collection. In the SportAccord Convention Art Corner, the ever-popular crowd-pleaser, Valentina Jarrett, will be in residence throughout the week, to inspire and teach children how to create 3-D art.

The Cultural Programme is also an integral part of the SportAccord Convention, both in terms of involving the local communities and schoolchildren of the Host City, as well as giving artisans and companies visibility. To this end, the SportAccord Convention Village will host an emporium, with local businesses offering products and services from the Krasnodar region. On top of this, artisans will showcase their crafts and regional produce, enabling delegates from around the world, to experience the talents and cultural riches on offer.

Now in its thirteenth year, the SportAccord Convention World Sport & Business Summit brings together key decision-makers from more than one hundred International Sports Federations and Associations, to discuss ways to take sport to the next level for the benefit of everyone worldwide.
