LAUSANNE, Switzerland - SportAccord Convention announced today that the 11th annual edition of the event last week attracted record attendance with 2,354 delegates from 58 countries taking part at Saint Petersburg's Lenexpo Exhibition Complex from May 26-31, 2013, an increase of 27% on attendance from last year.

The number of companies and organisations participating in SportAccord Convention also grew this year (by 11%) to 912 different entities represented in Saint Petersburg, and there were more exhibitors than ever before with 92 stands (up 12%). Representatives from 107 different International Federations and 115 cities took part.

Media interest hit a new high with over 360 accredited television and press delegates as SportAccord Convention was once again the setting for an important announcement by the International Olympic Committee, which revealed the shortlist of candidate sports for possible inclusion in the 2020 Summer Games at the event. A special highlight of SportAccord Convention Week was a visit to the Convention by Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin on May 30.

"We are gratified that we had bigger attendance at this year's event, but our focus in organising SportAccord Convention will always be the quality of the delegate experience rather than the number of attendees," said Nis Hatt, SportAccord Convention Managing Director. "The Convention is above all a networking environment and we were especially pleased to be able to provide such an outstanding networking experience in Saint Petersburg."

Hosted by a different city every year, SportAccord Convention is a unique opportunity for international sporting leaders to engage with business, featuring a dynamic exhibition as well as the annual general meetings of governing bodies of world sport.

SportAccord Convention 2014 will take place in Belek, Turkey from April 6-11 next year.
