ESPN has selected the cities of Barcelona, Foz do Iguaçu and Munich to stage new events in the X Games beginning in 2013. ESPN's senior vice-president of programming and X Games events, Scott Guglielmino - who will be a speaker at SportAccord Convention this month - said the decision to choose Barcelona, Munich and Foz do Iguaçu was based on the strength of the "action-sports culture" in the cities. More than 40 entities from 21 countries expressed interest in hosting X Games events. The three new cities will join Aspen, Colorado; Los Angeles, California and Tignes, France as the action sports franchise doubles in size.

"Beyond expanding the number of events, we are also expanding the X Games brand into a youthful lifestyle brand by including style, music and film elements as part of each of the six X Games events," Guglielmino said. "These elements naturally exist in the action sports lifestyle and are very relevant to youth around the world."
