MOBILE APP GOES LIVE FOR SPORTACCORD CONVENTION 2018 - A “VITAL NETWORKING OPPORTUNITY FOR THE SPORTS BUSINESS COMMUNITY”

Date:
Wednesday, September 13, 2017

LAUSANNE, Switzerland – SportAccord Convention, the biggest global gathering for all the international sports federations and sports industry, is delighted to unveil the latest release of its smart mobile app for the Convention set to take place from 15 – 20 April 2018 in Bangkok. Designed to keep attendees informed and connected at all times, with up-to-the-minute news ahead of and during the Convention, the easy-to-use mobile app is also a critical networking tool for delegates.

A popular app at SAC2017 with well over one thousand downloads, Lars Lundov, CEO of Sport Event Denmark, whose organisation were also co-hosts for the Convention in 2017 said:

“SportAccord Convention is a vital networking opportunity for the sports business community. With a packed official schedule, and around 1500 high-profile delegates in attendance during the Convention in Aarhus Denmark in 2017, the mobile app was instrumental in helping delegates access and connect with people on the delegate list, set-up meetings, plan and organise what they want to do ahead of the Convention, and receive the latest information during the Convention. The mobile app is a great networking tool for delegates.”

Registered delegates can send meeting invitations to other attendees as well as review their profiles. In much the same way as email meeting requests are made, recipients can choose whether to accept or decline, and any confirmed meetings are added to their mobile phone calendar.

The new version of the mobile app for the next SportAccord Convention includes a go-to Virtual Conference Bag enabling delegates to bookmark important information, keep track of conference sessions they wish to attend or share with colleagues at a later date, as well as favourite speakers, delegates and content.

Other new features include a social media function enabling delegates to share their experiences with everyone within their social networks. The user-interface has also been updated and is more visually intuitive to include a clear tile icon design for easy navigation.

The official version of the SportAccord Convention mobile app can be downloaded in the Apple and Google Play stores with delegates up and running in less than a minute.

To network and connect with #SAC2018 delegates including all the international sports federations, anyone involved in the business of sport can register for the SportAccord Convention in Bangkok and join the world sport and business summit as a delegate, partner and exhibitor.

Organisations and sports business leaders who are considering attending #SAC2018 can gain insights from last year’s Convention in Aarhus, Denmark and watch highlights in the SportAccord Convention Video Gallery, where many of the conference sessions are also relevant to this year’s Plenary conference which will examine how sport and sponsors can unite a complex global audience for the future.

EXHIBITION BOOTHS SNAPPED UP AS MANY CITIES AND INTERNATIONAL SPORT FEDERATIONS SEE SAC2018 AS OPPORTUNITY TO CONNECT WITH SPORTING BUSINESS LEADERS

Date:
Thursday, August 17, 2017

LAUSANNE, Switzerland – Just over six weeks after registration opened for the SportAccord Convention set to take place at the Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre, Thailand from 15 – 20 April 2018, over twenty organisations have already signed-up for the #SAC2018 exhibition with many more organisations about to sign. The only annual sports business convention where all the international sport federations (IFs) are guaranteed to attend, these exhibitors include six international sport federations as well as ten cities and regions.

Showcasing Melbourne as the “Ultimate Sports City” at the SAC2017 exhibition in Aarhus Denmark, Damien de Bohun, General Manager of Major Events at Visit Victoria said, “Melbourne is the sports capital and has sport in its DNA, we have wonderful people who run great sporting events, incredible facilities and a great city. When it’s all said and done, people just love coming to Melbourne and love enjoying the sport that we host.”

International sport federations, cities, and any organisation involved in the business of sport, can book an exhibition booth online or discuss their requirements and options with the sales team ([email protected]). The SportAccord Convention format for 2018 has been designed to increase networking opportunities for both exhibitors and delegates with access to the conference auditorium and official meeting rooms via the Exhibition Zone which are all on one level. Exhibitors will also have access to the SAC networking mobile app to contact delegates, arrange meetings, and keep up-to-date with the latest news at the Convention.

Nis Hatt, Managing Director of SportAccord Convention said, “The SportAccord Convention exhibition is always a popular draw and sells out year-on-year and with over 20 exhibitors already signed-up, this is a great start. With no price increase for 2018, having more featured zones as well as more booths facing directly onto a bigger SAC Café, we’re expecting the exhibition to sell-out even sooner. Hatt went on to say:

Everyone with a vested interest in sport is here under one roof at SportAccord Convention and exhibitors see SportAccord Convention as an opportunity to connect with sporting business leaders. It goes without saying, having a booth enables exhibitors to highlight their products, services or sport and in the case of cities and regions, an exhibition booth provides a meeting point for international federations and sponsors to discuss future events and opportunities.”

Due to the overwhelming popularity of ‘enhanced’ booths at last year’s Convention, this is the ‘go-to’ booth for #SAC2018 with even more booths being made available. Entry-level booths will start at 6m² and include 4 delegate passes (increasing with booth size), graphics, TV, chairs, table, information counter, Wi-Fi, power, lights and carpet). Organisations will also be able to purchase floor space and build bespoke booths such as the award-winning FEI booth in 2016 and the outstanding FINA World Championships booths in 2016 and 2017.

The exhibition zone will also feature a special ‘Thai Pavilion’ to include local Thai attractions. Registration for SportAccord Convention 2018 is open and organisations are encouraged to take advantage of the limited number of early-bird delegate passes on offer at CHF1,500 (a saving of CHF1, 000).

Exhibitors are also encouraged to take advantage of the preferential rates negotiated with Official Logistics Provider DB Schenker who have partnered with SportAccord Convention for many years, for the transportation of booths and marketing materials to Bangkok. Please refer to this news story to connect to the DB Schenker team responsible for Bangkok.

The SportAccord Convention World Sport & Business Summit provides a unique platform for Leaders from international federations and industry to meet and discuss the business of sport. The Convention also offers many other social and networking opportunities as part of its Official Schedule.

SPORTACCORD CONVENTION & LAWACCORD: “A MUST-ATTEND FOR ANY LAWYER INVOLVED IN THE LEGAL BUSINESS OF SPORT”

Date:
Thursday, July 20, 2017

LAUSANNE, Switzerland – SportAccord Convention, the most influential sports business summit and global gathering for the sporting community, is delighted to share an overview of the #SAC2018 LawAccord conference programme set to take place on Wednesday, 18 April 2018. SportAccord Convention is attended by all international federations (IFs) and the LawAccord sessions will be of particular interest to IFs, cities and regions, event hosts, as well as lawyers and sports administrators.

The conference will be led by Stephen Townley, Chair of LawAccord and Michael Lenard, the Vice President of the International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS) who commented:

“The LawAccord (1:50) conference is a crucial part of the (GAISF) SportAccord agenda. Here at SportAccord Convention, we have all the international federations present and they are an important stakeholder, like the NOCs, like the IOC, and like the athletes. So for us, it’s a prime moment to have conversations with them and provide education to them.” Lenard went on to say, “This year’s focus on the legal aspects of hosting major sports events is particularly relevant for stakeholders, as well as cities and legal teams.”

The legal business of awarding and hosting major events has changed significantly in recent years becoming ever more complex. International federations and cities are having to find new ways to work and collaborate, as well as satisfy all the legal requirements that come into play.

The LawAccord Conference programme will set-out to identify the legal risks for international federations and cities and what this means for legal teams and sports administrators. Topics will include: identifying and analysing areas of potential conflict in host city agreements; common disputes and challenges with hosting major events; and whether the host country may impact risk disputes at ‘local’ level.

Session topics will also cover the key drafting issues for lawyers and who should take the risk; the increasing impact of criminal law and anti-corruption regimes and how this affects awarding major sports events; anti-doping programmes and responsibilities; and how to mitigate against litigation risks including the role of insurance, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), and CAS ad hoc panels.

Registration for #SAC2018 is now open. Commenting on the benefits of attending the SAC2017 LawAccord conference and SportAccord Convention in Aarhus, Denmark, delegate Alain Zahlan De Cayetti, Managing Partner of CVML (Dubai) and Arbitrator with TAS-CAS, commented:

“This was my first SportAccord Convention. As a TAS-CAS Arbitrator, the LawAccord Conference gave me compelling enough reason to register, however, on arrival, it didn’t take long to realise that I should have scheduled to attend the entire week of the Convention. With all the international federations present and in particular, Mrs. Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris attending for the Paris 2024 Olympics and the Dubai Sports Council’s team, not to mention governing sports bodies and many industry leaders, the Convention gave me unique access to connect with many of the key people in sport. NEW ‘CITYACCORD’ TO KICK-OFF CONFERENCE PROGRAMME AT 2018 SPORTACCORD CONVENTION IN BANGKOK AIMED AT EVERYONE WITH A STAKE IN SPORT

Date:
Thursday, June 22, 2017

LAUSANNE, Switzerland – SportAccord Convention, the biggest global gathering for the sporting community, is delighted to announce the unveiling of the new conference programme ‘CityAccord’, aimed at cities, regions, sponsors, international sport federations and organising committees, as well as industry. A unique opportunity for everyone with a stake in sport, CityAccord, formerly known as City Forum, will take encompassing themes way beyond the confines of sport and the field of play, and examine how cities are ‘Making Relationships a Priority’ – this year’s conference programme focus for CityAccord.

Always a popular day for delegates, and with the 2024 Olympic bid cities in attendance at #SAC2017, speakers presented to a packed conference hall. #SAC2018 ‘CityAccord’ is set to take place on Tuesday, 17 April 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Commenting on the benefits for delegates of CityAccord within the SportAccord Convention programme, Nis Hatt, Managing Director said, “Everyone with a vested interest in sport attends SportAccord Convention. It provides the business community with a vital networking opportunity. The Convention in Aarhus, Denmark saw a big rise in attendance for the cities community with 135 cities and regions present. CityAccord provides delegates with the platform to share ideas, challenge the status quo, as well as discover the benefits of staging sports events.”

Conference sessions will examine why establishing successful relationships from the outset is key to successful event hosting, and what it takes to build on-going relationships between events for grass roots sport and people within the community, sharing examples of local programmes that are successfully motivating people of all ages and abilities. Sessions will also focus on long-term partnerships between international sport federations and cities, where IFs support and rewards cities and regions who not only host major sporting events but also invest in legacy through developing community participation and related infrastructure.

CityAccord will also look at novel ways cities and international federations have pooled technological resources as a result of changing behaviour and expectations of athletes, fans and sponsors. The session ‘Upside Down/Inside Out’ will explore unique ways cities are repurposing facilities post-event, enabling sports to find new audiences in non-traditional markets and locations.

The interactive panel discussion will examine the bidding process and how it affects the City/IF relationship. It will address what key changes need to take place to ensure cities are not put in a position where they have to drop-out of a bidding race. Event Watch will look at the keys to a successful ‘City and Organising Committee relationship’ and the final session, City Update, will focus on successful strategies being implemented between IFs and host cities for upcoming events.

CityAccord will be preceded by City-to-City. This event is for cities and regions only and will focus on two topics, each with short presentations, followed by discussion: (1) Creating an event that inspires children to participate in sport through dedicated local youth sports programmes (2) Don’t wait for your legacy, activate it before your event. The full #SAC2018 conference programme will include a ‘city focus’ within each conference stream.

"The Smart Cities & Sport Network is thrilled to support the SportAccord Convention in developing inspiring and interactive topics for the City-to-City session and the CityAccord. We look forward to enhancing the relationships between cities from around the globe and the international sport world.” said

Co-ordinator Melanie Duparc, Official Supporter of SportAccord Convention who helped to shape the upcoming CityAccord conference programme.
