LAUSANNE, Switzerland – SportAccord Convention is pleased to announce the official programme for the LawAccord Conference scheduled to take place on Thursday, 6 April 2017 from 14:00-17:30 at the Scandinavian Center Aarhus, Denmark. This year’s LawAccord conference programme will include the latest updates from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). A workshop will also examine the legal strategies and novel approaches organisations may consider, to capture and monetise their digital assets.

 “In addition to the critical briefing sessions from CAS and WADA at this time of considerable change in legal aspects of the sports industry, LawAccord will also examine the way technology is sparking innovation, creating both challenges and opportunities for International Federations as well as organisations who are involved in the legal business of sport.”

Keynote addresses will include the most recent jurisprudence and CAS rules presented by Matthieu Reeb, Secretary General of CAS. Delegates will also hear from Julien Sieveking, Director, Legal Affairs from WADA, who will provide an update on the implementation of the 2015 Code, the WADA compliance programme, and a roundup of the latest WADA investigations.

SPORTACCORD MEMBERS ADDED TO THE SPORTS PROGRAMME FOR THE OLYMPIC GAMES TOKYO 2020

LAUSANNE, Switzerland – During the 129th IOC Session in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday, 3 August 2016, a successful vote was taken to add the following SportAccord Member sports to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 sports programme - Baseball/Softball, Karate, Skateboard, Sports Climbing and Surfing.
 
 
The decision came as a result of the Tokyo 2020 Games Organising Committee proposal to add five sports in support of the Olympic Agenda 2020’s call for flexibility in the staging of competitions.
 
Speaking on the decision, SportAccord President, Patrick Baumann said: “It is with great pleasure to be able to congratulate the SportAccord Member sports for their addition to the sports programme for Tokyo 2020. It is a testament to the efforts they have all made for inclusion, and as an organisation we are especially proud to witness their success.” 
 
In addition, Members of the newly appointed SportAccord Council were also in attendance of the 129th IOC Session and appreciated the opportunity to congratulate the sports after the successful vote was announced.

NEW SPORTACCORD COUNCIL APPOINTED IN LAUSANNE

LAUSANNE, Switzerland – The SportAccord Council met by tele-conference on Wednesday, 27 July 2016. The meeting was chaired by newly elected President, Mr. Patrick Baumann and confirmed the appointment of new Members to the SportAccord Council as proposed by its stakeholders:

The new SportAccord Council addressed the distribution of responsibilities within the Council and elected Mr. Raffaele Chiulli and Mr. Stephan Fox as Vice Presidents and Ms. Marisol Casado as Treasurer.
 
Following an internal review carried out during the month of June by SportAccord President, Mr. Patrick Baumann and SportAccord Convention President, Mr. Francesco Ricci Bitti, the Council approved the combining of the Managing Director role for both organisations. As a consequence, the Council appointed the current Managing Director of SportAccord Convention, Mr. Nis Hatt, as Managing Director of SportAccord. 
 
Further, Mr. Philippe Gueisbuhler has been appointed as Head of Administration, overseeing the administration of both SportAccord and SportAccord Convention, and Mr. Michel Filliau as Senior Advisor to the SportAccord President in charge of Membership Relations. Mr. Matteo Vallini continues to lead the Doping-Free Sport Unit (DFSU) within SportAccord.
 
The SportAccord Council also took the decision to create Working Groups to analyse the feasibility of hosting specialised Multi-Sport Games in the future.

Going back to its roots and raison d’être, this year’s 14th edition of the SportAccord Convention was heralded a great success by delegates.

Returning to the home of International Sport, Lausanne proved to be the perfect destination after a turbulent year. Following overwhelming feedback from International Federations in support of future Conventions and the desire to return to basics, the new outlook for 2016 and beyond responds to the needs and aspirations of delegates and the wider global sport community.

Francesco Ricci Bitti, the President of SportAccord Convention, welcomed delegates from around the world, encouraging “open dialogue” about sport’s mission in the world. This year the SportAccord Convention attracted more than 1700 delegates from 75 countries. The delegation comprised over 100 International Federations and Associate Members, the IOC, Organising Committees including delegations for 2016, 2018 and 2020, 2024 bidding committees and commercial organisations representing 89 cities or regions.

Offering state-of-the-art Conference, Exhibition and Opening Ceremony facilities, the SwissTech Convention Center provided the perfect backdrop for sport and industry to showcase their organisations, launch new services, forge new partnerships and discuss the business of sport.

This year, SportAccord Convention saw an outstanding line-up of speakers for its Conference which spanned 4 days. This was covered by 13 Media Partners as well as a pool of influential journalists from around the globe, resulting in over 1500 dedicated news stories, delivered in several languages, across all media platforms.

Looking forward to a bright future, the focus now shifts to the upcoming SportAccord Convention to be hosted in Aarhus, Denmark from 2 - 7 April 2017. Aarhus, known as the City of Smiles, will provide the perfect springboard to continue building on the momentum gained from this year’s Convention. Discussions are also underway with other cities from around the world who are also interested in hosting the SportAccord Convention from 2018 and beyond.

“AARHUS” DENMARK CONFIRMED AS HOST CITY FOR SPORTACCORD CONVENTION 2017

LAUSANNE, Switzerland – SportAccord Convention is delighted to announce Aarhus known as the City of Smiles, as Host City for the 2017 Convention. An active member in the World of Sport, Aarhus and Denmark host a wide variety of major international sporting events and sports congresses each year. The 15th edition of the SportAccord Convention will take place from 2-7 April 2017 at the Scandinavian Congress Center in the heart of Aarhus.

On becoming Host City to the next SportAccord Convention, Jacob Bundsgaard, Mayor of Aarhus commented:

“It is quite a scoop that Aarhus will be hosting the world’s largest international event for sport and industry leaders next year. Easy to reach, Aarhus is the second largest city in Denmark and a vibrant mix of youthful energy as well as being steeped in tradition and history dating back to the Vikings. Lars Lundov, CEO, Sport Event Denmark said:

Held in a different city every year, the annual SportAccord Convention is a unique opportunity for key decision-makers from sport and industry to meet, network, and strategically shape global, regional and national agendas. An exclusive 6-day event, the Convention is host to annual general meetings of governing bodies, and once again, will welcome a delegation from the International Olympic Committee.
