DEBBIE JERVANS
Director of Sport
London 2012

Debbie competed regionally, nationally and internationally, representing GB as a junior and senior tennis player.

Following her tennis career Debbie became a consultant to the International Tennis Federation (ITF), advising National Associations on the organisation, marketing and promotion of tennis.  She then worked full time at the ITF to oversee the return of tennis as an Olympic sport and run the Women’s tennis department.  In 1990 she became General Secretary of the ITF and was responsible for setting up the worldwide anti-doping programme.  In her role as General Secretary she was responsible for the delivery of the 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympic tennis events.

Debbie has sat on various IOC Commissions and working groups, including Olympic Games Evaluation Commission, Women in Sport Working Group and Clothing Rights for the Olympic Games.

In 2002 Debbie resigned from the ITF and set up her own sports consultancy.  Clients included ITF, International Rugby Board, International Cricket Council, Eurosport, BBC, UK Sport and the Northern Ireland Events Company.

Debbie was employed in 2003 by the London 2012 Bid as Director of Sport responsible for setting up the sports department, delivery of the sports concept, the sports section of the Bid Book and gaining the support and approval of the International Federations for the proposed plans for their sport.

As Director of Sport for LOCOG Debbie is responsible for putting in place the business plan for the sports department of LOCOG and defining the strategy for the delivery of sports competitions for Olympic and Paralympic sports and the implementation of Bid book as it pertains to sport.
